The presenting sponsor Stora Enso and the official timing partner Junghans have joined forces to deliver the official watch of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf 2021. The new mechanical sports watch by Junghans, 1972 Automatic FIS Edition, will be wrapped in a box made from the renewable board Ensocoat by Stora Enso.
Sustainable design is in focus for both Stora Enso and Junghans. The design of the watch box is aligned with the sporty and exclusive style of the watch itself. The watch comes in an elegant box-in-box solution displaying a unique structural 3D-effect with the snowy winter mountains. The watch box is made from Ensocoat by Stora Enso, a renewable and recyclable luxury packaging board.
“I was inspired by origami and wanted to create a design that goes hand in hand with the premium and sporty style of the watch,” says Outi Honkavaara, Packaging Designer, Stora Enso.
The official championships watch has the striking design of the 1972-line by Junghans, and embodies both the company’s timekeeping history, as well as the fascination with winter sports. A rotatable ring surrounding the dial indicates a second time zone while setting highlights in red and blue – the official championship colours. A snowflake engraving on one of the screw-down crowns and the back case, showcasing a special FIS Nordic World Ski Championships engraving, are sophisticated design features.
“This watch is a perfect combination of athletic dynamics and technical precision, capturing the passion of winter sports,” says Matthias Stotz, CEO, Junghans.
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is taking place in Oberstdorf, Germany 23 February–7 March 2021.
